A One-Night Brighton Weekend Escape
A one-night escape is one of the easiest ways to reset, especially when it’s a seaside getaway to Brighton. You don’t need long annual leave, detailed plans, or a packed schedule to feel like you’ve stepped away from the everyday. Sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery to burst that familiar routine and remind you how good slowing down can feel.
For me, that often means heading to Brighton. It’s always been one of my favourite places for a quick escape. Close enough to feel easy and spontaneous, yet different enough to feel like a proper break. Brighton has that rare balance of energy and ease, and for a Brighton weekend break, it really does tick every box. Even with just one night, you can eat incredibly well, explore, and still leave space to simply be.

This time, instead of sticking to a day trip, we decided to lean fully into the idea of a short seaside stay. We stayed at DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole, right on the seafront. The location alone instantly shifts your mindset.

Being able to see the sea as soon as you arrive makes the whole experience feel more intentional, even if you’re only there for one night. If you’re deciding where to stay in Brighton for a short escape, being on the water really does elevate it.
After checking in, we headed straight outside with Aperols in hand and settled in by the water. Watching the light change over the sea, hearing the waves in the background, and feeling that familiar seaside calm set in almost immediately. It’s one of those moments where time slows without you even realising, and suddenly the stresses of the week feel a little further away.
Dinner that evening was booked at Burnt Orange, somewhere that had been recommended to us time and time again, both by locals and across social media. From the moment we arrived, it felt like exactly the right choice for a Friday night in Brighton. Relaxed, atmospheric, and quietly impressive without trying too hard.

We started with padrón peppers and burrata with peaches. It’s the kind of combination that might make you pause when reading the menu, but it worked beautifully. The creaminess of the burrata paired with the sweetness of the peaches and the gentle heat of the peppers made for a perfectly balanced start.

Next came the grilled prawns topped with masala. Full of flavour, beautifully cooked, and one of those dishes you immediately want to recommend before you’ve even finished it.

We then moved on to grilled seabass, paired with a subtle sweet sauce that complemented the fish perfectly. Alongside it was an aubergine dish that was genuinely delightful and easily one of the highlights of the meal.

The wine selection was excellent, and everything about the evening felt unhurried. It was indulgent without being heavy, relaxed without ever feeling casual. For dessert, Lauren chose the cheesecake, while I finished with a deconstructed strawberry Eton mess. Light, fresh, and exactly what you want after such a well-balanced meal. If you’re looking for where to eat in Brighton, Burnt Orange is well worth adding to your list.

Saturday morning arrived quietly, with the sound of the sea outside our window. After taking things slow, we headed out to explore Brighton Pier. It’s such an iconic part of the city, and no matter how many times you’ve been before, it always feels worth the walk. There’s something nostalgic about it that feels perfectly in keeping with a seaside stay.

From there, we wandered through The Lanes, popping in and out of the weird and wonderful shops. I love how much personality this part of Brighton has. The independent stores, the funny postcards, the vintage finds, and the creativity around every corner. It’s also one of the things I appreciate most about Brighton, how openly LGBTQ+ friendly it is. It adds so much to the city’s warmth and character.

We stopped for fish and chips and a beer for lunch, the ultimate seaside combination, enjoyed without any rush or plans afterwards. Later in the afternoon, we treated ourselves to an ice cream by the beach, sitting quietly and taking in the sea air before heading home.
In less than 24 hours, we’d eaten incredibly well, explored at an easy pace, and properly switched off. It’s proof that a one-night Brighton escape can still feel like a full reset. Sometimes, one night really is all you need for the perfect seaside getaway.
