Let’s Talk Fashion

Fashion is defined as ‘A popular or latest style of clothing, hair, decoration or behaviour’.

As a lover of all things clothes, shoes and accessory related, I completely and utterly hate that definition. Why would fashion be classed as something that everyone wears? Do you think if everybody wore red gnome hats, they would be classed as fashion statement? Even though they would look absolutely ridiculous for starters, it would be classed as fashionable just because everyone is wearing it.
Fashion for me is having my own unique style, that expresses me as a person through my clothes. Dressing things to my taste, to the way I want to. Not because the next Tom, Dick or Harry is wearing it.
Taking something, making it my own, working it. I dress to my body type, to what suits me. I don’t find myself wearing clothes that are evidently two sizes too small.

Never dress to impress… I have learnt that over the years. Dress how you want to, because you feel comfortable wearing it. Comfort is the biggest thing (apart from when you get a new pair of shoes, that keeps giving you blisters for the first ten times of wearing them… but that’s another story!) especially if you could be wearing it in public, out and about for the next 12 hours of the day.
Fashion is an art, it shouldn’t be a chore. Be imaginative and creative, make it look special and you will find yourself willing to take the time to look ‘fashionable’.
The clothes you wear does in fact effect your mood. I bet you’re thinking, that is complete rubbish right? Try a little test for me, go out and wear jogging bottoms, a plain t-shirt and a hoody. Assess your mood, okay? Then dress up, put a bit more effort in and come up with what you feel is a good outfit, wear it out and then assess your mood. From my own experience, I see a definite change. I feel sluggish when I put no effort into how I dress, but when I add that little more effort… I am a completely different person.

Push your boundaries, come out of your comfort zone. We all have our favourite colours and styles, some of us like darker colours, others lighter. Pick colours that you aren’t used to wearing. You may think they do not suit you, but chances are you have not given it the chance to suit you. Try it, i’m sure you will find yourself loving something you never knew you were even capable of loving!
Over time, you will learn what your fashion taste is and you will be able to put outfits together in seconds. Even when you’re out and about, looking at clothes, you will instantly know what that new jumper could be paired with from that you currently own.
Fashion and clothes have changed how I think, feel and perceive myself. I would not change it for the world, as I feel amazing all the time. I want to help YOU find that same happiness and joy through clothes, shoes and accessories.
